ANYONE in France who has received a blood transfusion may be barred from giving blood for the rest of their lives. Currently, all blood donated in France is screened for hepatitis B and C, syphilis and HIV. People who have had cancer, growth hormone treatments, cornea transplants, or have a family history of neurological illness cannot donate. Recipients of transfusions must wait a year before giving.
